Interworking between SIP and MPEG-4 DMIF for heterogeneous IP video conferencing

چکیده
This article discusses technical issues related to delivery and control of IP multimedia services, such as videoconferencing, involving heterogeneous end terminals. In particular, it describes the design and implementation of an experimental system for interworking between IETF SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) and ISO MPEG-4 DMIF (Delivery Multimedia Integration Framework) session and call control signaling protocols. This IP videoconferencing interworking system is composed of two core units for supporting delivery of audio-video streams from a DMIF domain to a SIP domain (i.e. DMIF2SIP unit) and from a SIP domain to a DMIF domain (i.e. SIP2DMIF unit). These units perform various translation functions for transparent establishment and control of multimedia sessions across IP networking environment, including, session protocol conversion, service gateway conversion and address translation.

We discuss the technological challenges when streaming MPEG-4 content over heterogeneous networks. Especially with video content we find high bandwidth demand aside with high sensitivity to losses and errors. The goal of our project ISEM4 is to set up an MPEG-4 client-server system with a special focus on the DMIF FlexMux functionality. In order to increase bandwidth efficiency, we propose to i...

In this paper a heterogeneous network model based on the IMS-SIP (session Initiation protocol) with the help of Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA) protocol that integrates the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX), Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) and Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) technologies is proposed to improve QoS. The proposed Loos...
متن کاملA Signalling Interworking Solution for Heterogeneous Networking
IP based networking is seen to take the major role in the ongoing network and service converge process. However, a number of other networking solutions exist and it is anticipated that the future services will be carried to users over a diverse set of networks. This implies the need for interworking between the different network concepts and especially interworking between different signalling ...

This paper addresses the issue of QoS management under the framework of Delivery Multimedia Integration Framework (DMIF) protocol stack for the support of MPEG4 multimedia streaming. In this paper, we describe how QoS was dealt in the implementation of a DMIF protocol stack over two different network technologies: IP networks with RSVP signaling and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) with Q.2931 ...

IP and MPEG-4 digital video are two key technologies that will be increasingly combined in the very near future for the deployment of next generation Internet multimedia services. This article discusses technical issues related to the transport and the QoS control of MPEG-4 multimedia applications, such as interactive video-on-demand, over Internet. In particular, it describes the design, imple...
